About the Play
Seasons of Love follows three generations of a Bengali family communicating between Kolkata and Chicago and striving to find semblances of hope, comfort, and familiarity despite the distance that separates them.
SAHYR feels the pull to return home as MA struggles to cope with DIMMA's dementia alone. Through four seasons and festivals, through Shakespeare and Rabindrasangeet, the trinity attempt to find the light at the end of the tunnel.

A Play in Development
This piece began as a ten-minute one-act play entitled at the end of the tunnel, workshopped under the mentorship of Dr. Irma Mayorga in early 2021. It won the 2021 Barbara McClenon Clark One-Act Competition and received a staged reading, directed by Ahon Gooptu, in May 2022 at Grinnell College in Iowa.
It has since been developed as a full-length play, with invaluable feedback from members of the Chicago-based ShakesZoom reading group, and is currently one of eight finalists for Amplify Series Two, a new play development program commissioned by Definition Theatre in Chicago.
An excerpt from the play was performed by professional actors and filmed earlier this year. It was directed by Definition Theatre ensemble member Sophiyaa Nayar and will premiere alongside the seven other shortlisted works on August 13 and 14 in Chicago, following which four playwrights will emerge as winners and have their work fully commissioned by the theatre.
While Ahon Gooptu was in Kolkata in July and August 2022, The Red Curtain agreed to help in developing the play further.
